The Rt. Rev. Edward Thomas Demby

Born: February 13, 1869 Died: April 14, 1957

Edward Thomas Demby was an African-American bishop and author. Ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church of the United States and later the first African American suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Arkansas and the Southwest, Demby worked against racial discrimination and for interracial harmony, both within and outside of his church.

Barbara Clementine Harris was an American bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States. She was the first woman consecrated a bishop in the Anglican Communion. She was elected suffragan bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, on September 24, 1988, and was consecrated on February 11, 1989.

The Rt. Rev. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows

Jennifer Lynn Baskerville-Burrows is an American Anglican bishop in the Episcopal Church. In October 2016, she was elected bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis, and she was consecrated on April 29, 2017. She is the first African-American woman to be elected a diocesan bishop.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry

The Most Rev. Michael Bruce Curry is Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church.  He is the first African American elected as Presiding Bishop.

The descendant of enslaved Africans brought to North America by way of the trans-Atlantic slave routes,  Presiding Bishop Curry was born in Chicago, IL, on March 13, 1953.  Presiding Bishop Curry’s father was an Episcopal priest and his mother was a devout Episcopalian.

Presiding Bishop Curry was graduated with high honors from Hobart College in Geneva, NY, in 1975. He received a Master of Divinity degree in 1978 from Yale University Divinity School in New Haven, CT.

He is married to the former Sharon Clement, and they have two adult daughters, Rachel and Elizabeth.

Throughout his ministry, Presiding Bishop Curry has been active in issues of social justice, reconciliation, speaking out on immigration policy and marriage equality.
